Good morning, y'all.
Today you picked up your folders with a copy of the two original papers you selected to research. You need to pick one paper to begin working on today. You may select the paper you have in common with another student or the one which you alone will present. After you make this decision, you need to answer the following questions regarding your paper and its author.
1. What can you infer from the title of this paper? Copy the title into your answer and tell me what you believe the title indicates.
2. Given the period of time and location in which this paper was written, what was going on "in the world" at that time?
3. You may or may not know anything about the author of this work. Investigate the scientist responsible for this paper and tell me why you believe he was chose to work on this field in science at that time in history.
If you run into any difficulty with this assignment, don't hesitate to let me know - leave a response here!

1. THe coelum philosophorum:
i think this has to do with the wisdom of the human body
2. this was in the 1500's(no definate date): other things going on is:christopher columbus sailed his 4th voyage, fisrst cacao beans were shiped, peter henlein, german, created first watch, brides began to carry bouquets of flowers to hide their smell, Juan Cabillo was first to explore the coast of california
3. born either nov.11 or dec.17 1493, born and raised in switzerland, when young worked in mines, attended university of basil, and recieved a doctorate degree at university of ferrara, credited as first clinical/scientific mention of the unconscious
hey this is taylor and im doing the article About a New Metal, Gallium and i think this might be about the discovery of gallium and its properties and what not and it was discovered in france in 1875 during the industrial revolution so there were a lot of discoveries and inventions happening everywhere also the french revolution had just taken place and the constitution had recently been written and as far as the dude that wrote it goes his name was lecoq de boisbaudran what a name right? well apparrently he also discovered a few other elements and made contributions in the field of specroscopy and experimented with rare earth metals so i guess he just liked to mess with metals and stuff

Paper: Volta and the Battery
1. From the title of the paper, it can easy be infered that the paper has to do with batteries, elcetricity, cunduction, and a man named Volta.
2.The paper was written in September 1800, and at the time the French revoltionary war and the Nepoleonic wars were raging, and John Adamws was President of the United States.
3.Alessandro Volta had a passion with and was fascinated by electricity. He improved upon the electrophorus, an instrument that produces static electricity, and invented a forerunner of the modern battery. I think we worked with electricity and batteries ecause electricity fascinated him and it awas a new ground in science to be vastly improved on.
this is julie and the first comment was mine. sorry
1. Rasioactive Transfermations and the Periodic System of elements: changing particals that emitt from the nuclei and the table that embodies the most fundamental pricipals of science.
2. in 1913: post offices begal parcel deliveries, the National Woman's Party was formed, the 16th amendment was ratified, the first minimam wage law in the U.S. took effect in Oregon, the First prize was inserted in the Cracker Jack box, the first Cross Word Puzzle was published in the New York World, and the first home electronic refridgerator was put on the market.
3. Kasimir Fajans was born on May 27, 1887 in Warsaw, he died on May 18, 1975. He dicovered radioactive displacement law (along with Frederik Soddy) and attended the University of Leipzig, Heidelburg,Zurich, and Manchester. and some time during all of his reseaching became a neutralized citizen on the U.S. in 1942.

Rutherford’s Discovery of half-life
•I would guess, that because this was written by Rutherford, he will say how, when, and why he discovered half-life (whatever half-life is).
•During Rutherford’s life time: the Panama Canal was built, the Wright brothers flew their plane, the first Olympics that contained women was held in Paris, and Ford introduced the model-T.
•Well he was not really chosen to do it. He and his partner had the skills, equipment, and the time to do the needed testing.

1. The Coelum Philosophorum, I am not really sure at all what this means except that it is some sort of philosophy.
2. The translated version of the Coelum Philosophorum was published in 1894. Paracelsus was born in 1493 and died in 1541. I am not sure exactly when the Coelum was published. During that time was the Middle Ages. The year he died Hernando De Soto became the first European to see the Mississippi river. In 1510 Ferdinand Magellan began circumnavigating the world. Also Peter Henlein built the first pocketwatch.
3. Paracelsus was an alchemist, physician, astrologer, and occultist. He was very arrogant and most physicians didn’t like him. He was probably chosen to right this article because he was very interested in alchemy. One article referred to him as the “Alchemical Genius of the Middle Ages.” He is noted with the introduction opium and mercury into the arsenal of medicine.
hey this is taylor and the article: A radioactive substance emitted from thorium compounds and i think it might b about radioactivity in thorium compounds and this was in montreal during the early 1900's so the wright brothers began experimenting with aviation and the industrial revolution had just started to decline and it was right before the first world war rutherford apparently was pretty smart he went to like 3 colleges so i guess he just enjoyed chemistry and his work greatly influenced nuclear engeneering so i guess he liked taht too
